My name is Lorice Bolde and I became “Auntie Swizzle” in 2017. I had seen an ad in Hudson Valley Community College Adult Education Program about becoming a clown. I was so excited, I signed up immediately. I had researched the instructor, Marie “Mischief” Beck and contacted her. She had invited me to her Clown Alley Meeting, Electric City Clown Alley, and I was then becoming a clown. Needless to say, the class was cancelled due to lack of enrollment. Marie was kind enough to open up her home and teach us there. That’s where I learned about the different kinds of clowns and how to do the make-up for each one. I had already chosen to be an Aguste Clown (non white face). After the make-up, we learned magic tricks, balloon twisting and skits. Everything has grown from there. I am very family oriented, which is how I got my name “Auntie Swizzle”. My niece calls me “Auntie” and my daughter has always told me that if she had children they would call me “G-Swizzle”, so that’s how I came up with “Auntie Swizzle”. My mom has made all of my costumes, with the exception of my very first one which was put together with items I found at Good Will, lol. Since my mom makes all my costumes, there is not another one like mine around. Over the past 8 years my look has changed quite a bit, but I’m still the fun loving, belly giggling clown I have been from the start.
Dipsy Doodle My name is Tina Vanwormer, also known as Dipsy Doodle. I had attended the Altamont Wine and Apple Festival and saw some clowns doing face painting, twisting balloons and other things. I was so intrigued by them, I had to go over and talk with them. Well that little chat that I had with them, had me hooked and I joined their clown alley, Electric City Clown Alley. I have been twisting balloons and clowning since 2018. I don’t recall how I got my name, but it seems to suit me. I am also a Hospital Clown. My name is Dr. Anita Hugg. I go to the hospitals and visit patients there and cheer them up. Becoming a Clown, is one of the highlights of my life, other than my children and grandchildren. I love to bring the laughter and smiles to both children and adults. You are never too old to laugh and have fun.
The Twisting Duo
Auntie Swizzle and Dipsy Doodle met each other at the Electric City Clown Alley. Dipsy was telling the alley how she had a really difficult birthday party and was ready to give up doing parties. Well Auntie Swizzle told Dipsy to come and join her at one of her parties that she was doing, and that’s how the Twisting Duo started. We have been clowning together ever since. There are times that we entertain at parties by ourselves, and we still bring the same excitement with one as with two.
Auntie Swizzle and Dipsy Doodle are both members of the Electric City Clown Alley. They have both served positions on the board. They are both members of Clowns of America, Inc and Mid Atlantic Clown Association. They are also Certified Laughter Yoga Instructors. You are never too old to learn something new, and what better way to do it then with a friend.
A Clown Friend to boot.
